Christopher Willes is an artist based in Toronto. Through concerts, exhibitions, and performance projects his work explores an interdisciplinary collaborative practice based in music and sound.

Working within a mixture of acoustic and electronic, improvised and composed elements Christopher’s projects involve performers, and technologies of a wide variety.  He is active in the Toronto music community playing solo and with groups including PisteauTOCA LOCA+, Charlotte Mundy, Thomas Gill, and the AIM orchestra among others. His hybrid audio-visual projects have been shown at the Music Gallery , the Nuit Blanche Festival, and Labspace Studio  in Toronto. In 2010 he worked with performance artist Myra Davies on her work ’50 minute ring’ at the X-avant festival at the Music Gallery in Toronto, and performed at the 2010 Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in the UK with Contact Contemporary Music group playing the music of  Brian Eno.

Christopher’s work in theatre and dance includes collaborations with choreographers Andrea Spaziani (TWObyFour Festival, Dancemakers, 2012) and Meryem Alaoui (Bad Ass Dance Fun, Harbourfront Centre, 2012), Dancemakers (Adaptation Project, 2012) and an ongoing collaboration with choreographer Julia Male including her recent solo ‘Sad dog’ (Bad Ass Dance Fun, Harbourfront Centre) , and co-creating a video/performance installation  presented by Labspace Studio in 2011. He has also had the good fortune to work on projects with Toronto based companies ‘urbanvessel’ and ‘Small Wooden Shoe’ among others.

He studied music at the University of Toronto.
